Gingivitis is a gum disease which causes inflammation of the gums. It is the early stages of periodontal disease and should be treated early on before it advanced in to Periodontitis. Red, swollen gums and bleeding gums are a sign you may have gingivitis.
Causes of gingivitis
The main cause of the disease is poor oral hygiene. Other factors such as genetics, diabetes, poor diet, dehydration, mouth breathing, bruxism, smoking, some medications and stress may also result in gingivitis.
Treatment options
Any sign of the disease should not be ignored. A checkup with Thirroul Dental Studio will allow us to determine the best treatment plan for your condition.
Treatment may include improved oral care techniques, use of an advanced toothpaste or gel, a deep cleanse, or a scaling and root planing. This involves scraping the tartar from above and below the gum line and removing rough spots from the roots of the teeth.
